Keep Calm and Carry On

Yes, I do read the obits. NYT 11/24 Lady Elizabeth Anson, was a cousin to the current Queen Elizabeth II. She had a talent for planning "parties" including the Queen's 80th & 90th and later formed a company where she planned one for the Rolling Stones which attracted the police.

But it was the following that caught my attention: "In 1993, when Ivana Trump, newly divorced from Donald J. Trump, hired Lady Elizabeth to organize a 50th birthday party for Ms. Trump's fiance at the time, Riccardo Mazzucchelli, and then doubled the guest list. Ms. Trump refused to pay the difference. The two spent years in court fighting over $9000." Does this sound familiar? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Greetings of the Season

For wine lovers, the new crop of Beaujolais Nouveau was to market on the third Thursday of November - Nov. 19th. It is famous for races by distributors to get the first bottles to different markets around the globe.

Folklore has it that one enterprising distributor planned to parachute a case to beat a competitor to market. He didn't plan on it ending up "bubbly".

Sign in a local State Store: For all you BYOS suggest fine wine and good spirits.

A late election comment: "The only way Trump will get to 270 if he would lose fifty pounds." -Michael Steele

Post Election Review

Several of the comments that caught my eye:

- Perhaps Trump should "put on his big boy pants" - Mayor Jim Kenney of Philadelphia.

- "Bad things happen in Philadelphia" - DJT - reminded one of Howard Cosell's famous knocks against our city.

- Referring to that famous photo op outside the D.C. church where Trump held up a Bible "shaken like a Martini" - NYT

-But the best referred to Rudy Giuliani's press conference at the Four Seasons. I'm sure America's Mayor had dined there often. But this Four Seasons was a landscaping service in northeast Philadelphia next to an adult bookstore and crematorium where Rudy held court in the parking lot. Earlier in his career he might have closed the adult bookstore and the crematorium might have been the destination of their campaign. Anyway, as the seasons go, I prefer Vivaldi's.tjs

Current events.

- Bismark, N.D. elected a dead man on Tuesday - fortunately it was for a down ballot office. He did seem rather quiet during the debate. It recalled the following anonymous quote - "It isn't the cough that carries you off, it's the coffin they carry you off in."

-"Le confinement" is what the French call their coronavirus lockdown. Politically correct perhaps but surely weYanks could find a more colorful description.

What's in a Name?

facebook Lachlan Murdoch son of Rupert and chief exec at FOX was heard politely spelling his name to a restaurant hostess who didn't recognize him. Reminded one of a time in Washington D.C. when a particular department was shuffling personnel. One chap on the way to lunch called to the receptionist "If the boss calls, get his name!" tjs
